Dell and HP Computers

Dell computers and HP computers have been in competition with each other for over a decade now. When its time for you to purchase a new computer and you are trying to determine whether HP or Dell has the upper hand then you need to realize this: The real competition is between their users, who do not seem to understand this one fine point. Dell and HP do not make computers for the most part. What they do is put other company’s parts into towers and laptop cases and then they brand them.

You will notice this as you look at the names on internal devices inside either computer. You may have a processor that is AMD or Intel, a CD/DVD combo drive that is made by Samsung, and a motherboard made by Asus.

Unlike Apple they also do not make their own operating system. The both run on a Windows based platform which is made by Microsoft. Meaning that both computer companies make extremely similar products. Whereas Apple computers have a strict set of parts that must be used in order for the system to be an “Apple” computer, HP and Dell computers can use almost anything. This is great for upgrading possibilities and cost, but can lead to a slightly less stable machine.

In order to make any kind of distinction between an HP and a Dell computer you will need to know what is inside each computer specifically, what kind of look or design you are after and also what you may be looking for as far as customer support goes.

Graphic chips in Dell versus HP

Users of both computers have had some time to compare notes on the subject of graphic chips, which is very important. Users have come to the conclusion that Dell computers, on average have inferior graphic chips on then do HPs. This is not necessarily true for every single machine, but this is a more across the board assessment.

Software superiority

On the issue of which computer is going to offer you better software, I have looked around and say that most people felt the computers were evenly matched in this department. They will both come included with the latest Windows version. So this leaves the included company specific software as the only main difference. When most people purchase an HP they will find software that is very similar to Dell. One thing to note though is people have said that Dell usually includes more free games, if this something that matters to you.

Determining The Best Computer For You

Dell and HP are both solid computers with good reputations, but the best computer is going to be dependent on the specs of the components in each one, not the specific brand. Seeing as how they are both established brands and usually give equal warranty coverage, there are few differences.

Establishing primary use

In order for you to determine what computer is best for you try to determine what you will use it for. If you only plan on using it for internet access then getting an inexpensive Dell might be the option for you. When looking at Dell you can find really incredible deals on some solid machines. You can go on www.Dell.com and custom build your computer. You can remove unneeded items from the system to reduce the price. The Dell Outlet also offers refurbished models at an excellent price. This gives Dell a bit better pricing when it comes to lower end models.

If you are more interesting in gaming it might be a better idea to get an HP, because a lot of users feel Dell falls a bit short in the gaming department. Not to say that they don’t make high end gaming machines; but users ratings have found that HP is a little better in this department.

As stated above, you can custom make your Dell gaming machine if you’d like. Dell has their flagship model which is the Dell Inspiron which comes in both desktop and laptop versions. Their higher end, performance models are Dell XPS.

HP on the other hand usually labels most of their machines as HP Pavillion models, and gives a model number to signify between the everyday home and office computer and the more high end gaming HP Pavillion’s.

When it comes to Dell computers if you want longevity and high performance then do not go for the least expensive ones. In my research I found that customer service said most of the complaints that came through were for their least expensive computers.

Compatibility problems

Dell and HP are both proprietary products, so you can expect to have some software/hardware compatibility problems from time to time. Dell also has been known to have compatibility problems with certain anti-virus programs.

Customer Support

Most users also feel that HP offers better customer support. Dell has been criticized for become a bit “too big for their britches” so to speak. Some feel that Dell uses a McDonalds approach to their computers and customer service; Sell as many computers as they can which can lead to lower quality machines and costumer service that is lacking. Dell stands behind that this is not true but this has been a criticism of the company.
Final Thoughts

As someone who has used both Dell and HP products my whole life I can say that they are extremely similar. Before buying any computer the real question is the specs inside the machine. Neither company should be given an edge on anything other then what price they can offer for comparable systems.

For someone like me, design is also a big issue. I want my computer to be sleek and stylish. HP and Dell have both been trying to come out with thinner, lighter and better looking computers. This may factor into your thought process especially when looking at laptop computers. If specs are comparable, then my first reaction is going to be… “Which one gives that WOW factor?”.

There is a lot of talk and information out there over which digital cameras are better. Two of the biggest brands on the market are Canon and Nikon. Both these companies and their cameras have their positives and negatives. Neither companies overall product line totally outshines the other. The are both reputable companies that have gotten their high standing reputations because they both offer good quality products at competitive prices.

The reality of the situation is that neither company is better then the other one. It comes down to the specific camera for the specific task. In this article we will go over some of the general differences and strengths of each company which may help guide you in the right direction.

Canon vs. Nikon Digital Cameras

Nikon cameras are known to have a good flash system due to their CLS, which is good for events like weddings and other celebrations. Some people feel that Canon cameras produce a low noise image, which is definitely good for landscape type photos. Canon has recently come out with a full frame for their newer DSLRs, while Nikon still has to do some catching up in this department.

Which cameras are actually better?

Concerning which cameras are better, Canon or Nikon, that is going to be up to the user to decide. A lot of people like Canon because it is the camera that most of them are familiar with. Canon has good quality images, which makes for good photoshop usage and printing. This though is more about brand recognition then anything. You really need to know what you are looking for in order to get a more accurate assessment as to which camera is going to be better for you.

The camera professionals like to use

The camera that professionals seem to like using would be Nikon. This is for three primary reasons. Professionals like the F-mount lens, fits all Nikons, nikkor glass is better then glass used in Canon lenses. Of course all of this is just a matter of opinion. Some people feel that Canon is the better camera because for those who like to shoot ISOs they feel Canon is superior in this department. Often people claim they are able to look at a picture and tell when it has been shot with Nikon, mainly because of the noise pattern it creates. Some people are okay with this while others are not.

Canon and Nikon are very similar overall

I would say that Canon and Nikon are very similar to each other. I think it is a good idea to not focus so much on which is better and instead on the actual camera itself. Invest some money on the lenses rather than the body, because optics will get you far more than body will.

People have been saying that Nikon optics are much better then Canon, keep in mind that this comparison pits their best optics against the best optics of Nikon.

Some people are going to say they prefer Nikon rather than Canon, because for them it is a matter of expense. They feel they are able to get a better camera for the money they have available to spend. When it comes to add on peripherals they also feel like they can get more for their money with Nikon. The only downside in this department would be that Nikon lenses tend to be much more expensive then their canon counterparts.

I would say the debate over which camera is better, Nikon or Canon is going to depend on what you plan on using the camera for most of the time. If you are a professional, most of them tend to go for Nikon. If you are looking for a camera that produces good landscape images and is perfect for editing with photoshop and revision, then Canon is the way to go. Just like with anything, its more about the specific tool for the job. If you know exactly what you will be using your camera for, then you are best off doing comparisons of the individual models rather then a company to company comparison.
